Fundraising and strategy expert Eleanor Kootsey has joined the Tradeoffs team as the organization’s first Managing Director of Partnerships and Growth.

Before joining Tradeoffs, Kootsey spent nearly five years as the Chief Strategy Officer at CIMA Consulting, where she created and led the firm’s strategic consulting services with a focus on nonprofit revenue diversification, expansion planning and board development. Before becoming Chief Strategy Officer, Kootsey worked for nearly a decade as a nonprofit fundraising consultant for mission-driven nonprofits.

Kootsey has a proven track record of leading organizational revenue development and expansion strategy, previously serving as the executive director of the Richmond, Virginia, affiliate of the national education nonprofit Higher Achievement, and as the national development director for Girls for a Change.

Kootsey lives with her husband and son in Roanoke, Virginia, where she serves as the board chair of the Roanoke City Public Schools Education Foundation.

“We’re so excited to have Eleanor join Tradeoffs, especially during this consequential time for health policy news,” said Dan Gorenstein, Tradeoffs founder and executive editor.

“Eleanor has held development and executive roles across her career, as well as nonprofit consultant and board member, and we’re so lucky to have her bring her deep experience to our team.”

At Tradeoffs, Kootsey will lead Tradeoffs’ efforts to further diversify and grow organizational revenue and help elevate the visibility of the newsroom’s award-winning reporting. In her role, Kootsey will serve on Tradeoffs’ leadership team and work closely with Gorenstein to shape organizational strategy and ensure the long-term sustainability of Tradeoffs’ mission.

“I’m proud to represent Tradeoffs’ compelling journalism and its contribution to a vital national conversation around health policy solutions,” said Kootsey. “I’m eager to strengthen Tradeoffs’ organizational capacity to expand its coverage of evidence-based research, the stories of Americans within our healthcare system, and the complex decisions our local, state and national leaders must consider for serving the public well.”
