Melanie Evans, former Wall Street Journal reporter, starts next week, bringing decades of experience covering hospitals and health policy to strengthen Tradeoffs’ health reform coverage.

Award-winning reporter Melanie Evans joins Tradeoffs on Nov. 18 as a reporter and producer, bringing a wealth of experience in health care reporting to our newsroom.

Melanie comes to Tradeoffs after eight years at the Wall Street Journal, where she covered the hospital industry, reporting on the business of running hospitals, health care quality and the impact of technology on the field. During her time at the Journal, she was part of an award-winning team recognized by the New York Press Club and Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing for their coverage of hospital pricing.

Before her stint at the Journal, Melanie spent more than 17 years covering health care and hospitals for Modern Healthcare and the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune.

In her new role, Melanie will deepen Tradeoffs’ coverage of national and state health policy issues, as well as lead our coverage on Republican health reform.

“We are lucky to have Melanie on the team, especially at such a critical time in health policy,” said Dan Gorenstein, founder and executive editor of Tradeoffs. “She’s one of the most widely respected health care journalists around. Her coverage of hospitals demonstrates her ability to dive into data, bring out the human side in health care stories, and do important work.”

A Minnesota native, Melanie will join the fully-remote Tradeoffs newsroom from New York City, becoming the organization’s first reporter based in the country’s largest city.
